For 2016 I would like to see the X-wing Miniatures Game shake the game up, especially the Metagame. Most of all, Scum needs some love. Scum and Villainy doesn’t appear as strong as the other factions in terms of ship options and upgrades.
New Maneuver
Fantasy Flight recently added a new maneuver: the Tallon Roll with the The Force Awakens Core Set. I would still like to see the maneuver dial shaken up a bit more. It would be nice to have a new Maneuver color and ability associated with that color.
As a proposal I would suggest a Blue maneuver. This would allow the unit to take two actions from their action bar. This wouldn’t remove stress as a green maneuver, but allow for more tactical flexibility. Now a fighter can use a Blue maneuver to Barrel Roll and Focus, Target Lock and Evade, etc., etc.
Adding a maneuver dial color is not easy. As newly created units can have them on their dial, but another way to it in to the field would with upgrade cards, which allow it to be added to existing units.
The Scum and Villainy faction lacks a lot compared to the Rebel and Imperial factions. Now since the Rebels have a Slam unit, it would be nice to have one on the scum side as well. It would be nice to have a large ship with Slam at that, something like Tri-Mark VII Interceptor.
A Large Scum unit with Slam could use it with updates like Tactical Jammers or Ion Projectors, making it into a wrecking ball on the field. It could be used to deny opponents more location on the field or even actions. Having a Large unit with Slam that becomes an obstacle or a distraction might give Scum an underhanded chance in a battle.
Missile boat for Scum
Once again more love for Scum. As the Scum faction lacks a unit that can launch large quantities of missiles and torpedos, much like the Imperial Tie Punisher and the Rebel K-Wing. It would be nice to have a unit on the Scum faction that can fill this role.
I would like to see the GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat fill this roll on the Scum side. Where the Punisher and K-Wing have Boost and Slam respectively, the skipray would be a slow, lumbering unit. With missiles, and torpedoes, it would be a heavy punch that Scum needs. It could be even more unique to have Ion cannons as a main weapon over standard attack.
On top of that it could be a unit that is shared between Imperials and Scum. Much like Firespray-31.
Scum Needs better stress Management
When you look at the options for Crew and Droids for both Rebel and Imperial factions, there are numerous options. For example, the “Stress bot” is extremely powerful in Competitive play.
Scum should be a faction of underhanded attacks and denying their opponents the perfect setup. It would be nice for the Scum and Villainy faction to have more Stress Management and ways to cause it in others.
Illicit upgrades also feel lacking in options: it would be nice to have a card with something like “This unit ignores the effects of a single Stress Token. Additional Stress Tokens must be resolved as normal.”
Overall I like 2016 should be the year that Scum sees more competitive play.
