I don’t really understand Kihraxz Assault Fighter

Wave 7 is coming out soon for X-Wing Miniatures. As a person that sides with Scum, I wasn’t ... well... I was underwhelmed by the offerings in Wave 7.

Most of all I was underwhelm with the Kihraxz Assault Fighter. If you confuse like me on how to say it, I was told it's pronounced ‘ki-rax’.

Fantasy Flight Games spend a great deal writing up and comparing the Kihraxz with the X-Wing. So I don’t need to do recap that. But I like to play Scum, not Rebels. If I wanted to field X-Wings, then wouldn’t I play the Rebels with their all round fighter?

Kihraxz doesn’t have extra crew or a droid slot like the X-Wing, so it lacks synergy in both attack and defense. The X-Wing lately has been weak for survivability. More it just feels like a Scum version lesser version of the X-Wing, but for same points.

I had high hopes for the Kihraxz, which don’t feel like they will be answered.  The M3-A Interceptor of the last Wave was highly customizable with a title card that allows to complete change up its weaponry. Game play I enjoy and  I was hoping they would have for the Kihraxz fighter... and it doesn’t.

As of now, I need a fighter that can fight against the Metagame of heavy amount of Turret ships being fielded. I might use the Kihraxz as turret ship buster, if I can figure out how.

One of the Kihraxz’s Aces might help it against turrets. Graz ability has the ability to stare down a turret ship and gain an extra defense die. So they can keep the pressure on while closing on a turret ship. Pressure that will let your other ships zoom around. Faster than most turret ships, Graz can keep on the chase.

The problem is that against a Fat Han, I still need to survive against a massive assault of re-rolls, and 3 to 4 dice isn't going to do the trick. Sure Ill add Glitterstim for the dice roll boost, but the lack of green arrows, means i'm really limited the next round. Also Glitterstim is a one shot deal. Its not won’t that much.

Sadly the lack of other upgrade slots like an elite talent, limit the ability to give this unit enough attack dice to make it hit hard. The lack of maveruring options, means that I can have a hard time keeping a target in the front arc.

What I wouldn’t give to mount a Sensor Jammer on that fighter so I can block the Fat Han’s numerous re-rolls. Better yet Push the Limit to take a Focus and Target lock in the same turn. Ah to dream...

So my prediction with the Kihraxz is that you will not see it in Tournament play. In some time in the future, you might see a card like they added for the A-Wings later. Card that traded in the missile launchers for lower point cost. Maybe a card that will add budget for some other upgrade card; trading missiles for a System Upgrade slot or another Modification slot. Much like the what they did for the Tie Advance. For now... I will have to wait and see.
